Invisalign for Teens
Orthodontic treatment with Dr. Chan here at Aesthetic Dental Group in Bridgewater, NJ can give you the smile you always wanted. Being a teenager can be tough. Between juggling school, a social life, and extracurriculars, nobody wants to have to spend time needlessly worrying about their smile. However, for many people, orthodontic work is a reality that they will have to face eventually. If you have been told that your teenager may need braces, then they may be good candidates for Invisalign clear aligners. We here at Aesthetic Dental Group fit many patients with Invisalign and are happy to explain every step of this procedure to you and your teen.
If your teen has been told that they need orthodontic work, it is understandable that they may be a little bit nervous or may have questions about the process. After all, braces are highly visible and can make your growing child feel self-conscious. As an alternative to traditional braces, we offer Invisalign to our young patients, giving them a chance at having an even, straight and beautiful smile without having to worry about a mouthful of metal wires and brackets.
Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces
Conventional braces are a great option for many of our patients and fix issues other than just crooked teeth. They are also good for patients who may have bite alignment problems such as an overbite or an underbite. However, if your teen is struggling with crooked teeth, then Invisalign may be a great option for them. Unlike traditional braces, which are worn 24 hours a day and seven days a week, Invisalign can be taken out for up to two hours per day. This means your teen can take them out to play sports or brush and floss their teeth.
Invisalign is not just for adults, though adults do typically prefer it. We have fit patients as young as 12 years of age with Invisalign. Our main criteria for determining if your teen is a good fit for Invisalign is if they have their permanent adult teeth in. They do not need all of their permanent teeth, but their primary (baby) teeth do need to be out before we can begin. Your teen will need at least their permanent molars and incisors before we can proceed with Invisalign.
4 Benefits of Invisalign Teen

Why Use Invisalign?
It has been proven that the clear aligner system achieves 75% more predictable tooth movement with up to 50% faster treatment times due to weekly aligner changes. Invisalign clear aligners for teens also contain compliance indicators that fade from blue to clear to help gauge wear time. Not to mention, no other clear aligner is backed by data and experience of 4 million cases.
Invisalign is just as effective as conventional braces for fixing crooked teeth with uneven gaps and spaces, making it an excellent choice for many of our patients. Other alternatives to Invisalign may include palatal expanders and headgear, depending on the severity of the orthodontic issues that they have and the type of work they need to be done.
How Does Invisalign Treatment Work?
The first step is scheduling an initially consultation with Dr. Chan here at Aesthetic Dental Group near Bridgewater, NJ. Subsequently, Dr. Chan will custom make your Invisalign clear aligners and each aligner (changed typically every week) will shift your teeth slightly, moving them horizontally and vertically and even rotation them when needed. Your aligners will fit snugly over your teeth and use the right amount of force to gently shift your teeth into place.
Typical treatment with Invisalign is faster than traditional braces. While conventional braces can take up to two years to get desired results, Invisalign can be done in as little as just one year, but treatment may last up to 18 months. We do require to follow up appointments every two weeks for adjustments of your trays.
